My name is Pancreas Man the Pancreatic Duct Cell.I was named Pancreas Man by my friends who feel that Pancreas Man is the most suitable name of a cell from the pancreas of the human body. The only cells in the early human embryo are precursor cells or stem cells that are nudged into becoming specialized bone, nerve, internal organ or pancreas by the action of genes and the growth-and-development molecules produced by genes. It may be surprising to learn that we pancreatic duct cells have a developmental relationship with many others tissues such as breast and prostate gland but this shows the built-in potential of stem cells to grow into a variety of specialized forms. We pancreatic duct cells do not just spring into existence from embryo stem cells. The path of our development begins in a group of pancreatic duct cells that are nudged into different directions to become specialized cells of many different tissues and organs including the pancreas. The paraxial mesoderm is divided along the embryo's length into somites, corresponding to the segmentation of the body.1. Sclerotome (which forms vertebrae),2. Dermatome (which forms skin), and3. Myotome (which forms muscle). It has long been known that we pancreatic duct development begins in the fore gut of the very early embryo before the embryo begins to mature into the recognizably human form of a fetus. The pancreas forms from the embryonic foregut and is therefore of endodermal origin. My Pancreatic development begins with the formation of ventral and dorsal buds. Each structure communicates with the foregut through a duct.My ventral pancreatic bud becomes the head and uncinate process and comes from the hepatic diverticulum.Differential rotation and fusion of the ventral and dorsal pancreatic buds results in the formation of the definitive pancreas. As the duodenum rotates to the right it carries with it the ventral pancreatic bud and common bile duct.Upon reaching its final destination the ventral pancreatic bud fuses with the much larger dorsal pancreatic bud.At this point of fusion the main ducts of the ventral and dorsal pancreatic buds fuse forming the duct of Wirsung, my main pancreatic duct.Differentiation of cells of the pancreas proceeds through two different pathways corresponding to the dual endocrine and exocrine functions of the pancreas. My progenitor cells of the exocrine pancreas important molecules that induce differentiation include follistatin, fibroblast growth factors, and activation of the Notch receptor system.Development of my exocrine acini cells progresses through three successive stages. These include the pre-differentiated, proto-differentiated, and differentiated stages, which correspond to undetectable, low and high levels of digestive enzyme activity, respectively. My exocrine pancreas has two types of cells.1. My acinar cells make powerful digestive enzymes that can dissolve complex vegetables and meats turning them into liquids. The enzymes are made in an inactive form (zymogens) to keep the pancreas from digesting itself.2. We duct cells make fluid that mixes with the zymogens to make pancreatic juice. The pancreatic juice flows from my acinar cells to the first part of the small intestine called the duodenum. The juice then mixes with the food as it leaves the stomach. The juice has high concentrations of bicarbonate which neutralizes stomach acid.Only in the intestine the zymogens become active enzymes.A zymogen requires a biochemical change (such as a hydrolysis reaction revealing the active site, or changing the configuration to reveal the active site) for it to become an active enzyme. The majority of the pancreas is made of my acinar cells. What is a Pancreatic Duct? (with pictures) - wiseGEEK ~ Sometimes the pancreatic duct can get blocked, as can happen in people who suffer from gallstones, for instance. A gallstone can break away from the gall bladder and become wedged in the pancreatic duct, affecting the flow of the enzymes. This can lead to pancreatitis, a condition in which pancreas gets inflamed, causing pain in the abdominal area.
Ductal cells of the pancreas - ScienceDirect ~ 2. Cell origin. Acinar, endocrine and ductal cells of the pancreas all derive from a specific region of endoderm. At 8.5 dpc (days post-coitum) in the mouse, the homeobox transcription factors Pdx1 and Hlxb9 mark regions of the forming duodenum from which the pancreas buds will form (Kim & MacDonald, 2002).There are three pancreas buds in vertebrates: one dorsal and two ventrolateral ().
Pancreatic duct - Wikipedia ~ The pancreatic duct, or duct of Wirsung (also, the major pancreatic duct due to the existence of an accessory pancreatic duct), is a duct joining the pancreas to the common bile duct to supply pancreatic juice provided from the exocrine pancreas, which aids in digestion. The pancreatic duct joins the common bile duct just prior to the ampulla of Vater, after which both ducts perforate the .
